Kate McLelland grew up in the North East of England before moving to London to gain a BA Hons in Theatre Design. After completing her degree in London she moved to Edinburgh, where she recently gained an MFA in Illustration with Distinction at Edinburgh College of Art.
For her final degree show she created limited edition prints as well as two children's books, one of which was highly commended by the MacMillan Prize. During her master she was also nominated for a D&AD Illustration award and a Penguin Design Award.
Since finishing her MFA she has received a Creative Scotland Grant as well as an Andrew Grant Bequest Scholarship. She's currently illustrating a Scottish version of 'There was an Old Woman who Swallowed a Fly' (text by Rebecca Colby) for Floris Books, which will be published in their Picture Kelpies range in Spring 2014; and enjoying living in Edinburgh with her husband and baby.
