Shona grew up on the Island of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides where her father was a doctor for 25 years. She loved growing up there with its huge sandy beaches and clear seas. The winters were hard with gales and wild Atlantic storms and the summers… were the same! She has drawn and painted for as long as she can remember.
It was while living in London that Shona began working as a freelance illustrator, illustrating everything that came her way including advertising, editorial work and books.
She hadn't really thought about illustrating children's books until one day Walker Books called and asked if she would like to illustrate a set of 6 natural history picture books. It was a lovely commission to work on and she decided to specialise in children's book illustration. She has worked with, among others, Barrington Stoke, Blackies, Elm Tree Books, Floris, Hippocrene Books NY, Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, Souvenir Press and Strident. She enjoys the challenge of illustrating anything from dancing cows to aliens in spaceships in either full colour or black and white. Shona has recently begun to write as well as illustrate children's books and is enjoying a whole new set of challenges!
