A Jacket for Joan Lingard

Floris Books is to republish The Sign of the Black Dagger, Joan Lingard's award-winning novel set in Edinburgh's Old Town. They are inviting illustrators and designers to create an eye-catching jacket for the new edition.

A mystery story for readers aged 8 to 11, it tells the story of two sets of brothers and sisters who live in the same house - but 200 years apart. Both families face financial difficulties - their fathers are in serious debt - and it is left to the children to sort things out. A diary found tucked away in the old house offers clues that might just help them on their way...

This is the novel selected by Floris Books as the focus for the inaugural Kelpies Design and Illustration Prize and they are asking for entries by the end of January 2014.

Details about the Prize, together with detailed briefing notes can be found here on the Floris Books website.

Meanwhile, Joan, author of the Kevin and Sadie quintet set in Northern Ireland in the 1970s, is putting the finishing touches to her latest novel which will be launched this summer at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. There will be more about that here in the not too distant future...
